I think a catlike is quite a bit over your budget. I have just ordered one of these

Yes. Learn to spell. What's a helmit? Mitts you wear in hell so you don't burn your hands on your chains or manicles?
The hell scenes were the *best* part of the South Park movie. That was some good writing. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Go to local bike shop. Try helmets on for fit. Buy comfy one. Colour is secondary.0

Thanks for that constructive comment - a pure typo

I have a Catlike, worth every penny IMO. If I was going to get anything else I like these:

I rode for two years with a 'Giro - Monza', very good helmet IMO, but - it's all about the fit.
I upgraded to a catlike 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it. Why did I replace the monza...purely for looks.Road: Felt AR0, Di2
Touring/commute: Dolan Multricross
TT: PX Exocet Sold because it was like a sail in the wind (sh*t)0 -

One issue you might need to consider is the size of your head. If, like me, you have what appears to be a mushroom cloud from a nuclear bomb explosion sticking out of your shoulders, you might want to consider a Giro (their large size fits up to 63cm).0

Don't wear one ... a casquette is all you need ... and only then if you plan to fall off ... and onto your head ...0

For me Giro is the best fit & build. They are oval shaped whereas Bell are rounder (both are really the same company). I used to love Met (had 2) but builld-wise Giro are great at puttting lots of material around the perimieter of the helmet which is where I hit my head when I crashed. Had a series of 3 head hits over at 14 month period:
1 was the left temple with a Giro Pneumo
2 was the left side with a Met 7th Element
3 was the left rear of the head with a Giro Phase
All thre self-destructed quite well from what were not massive hits, but otherwise would have been my noggin bouncing off the road.
I look for modles where the hard shell wraps around as much as possible which increases their life span. NOTE: a lof of cheaper helmets save money by being mostly foam and not much hard shell. The backs of cheapo Spesh helmets are just polystyrene, I'm no safetly expert but I'd rather have a cover to provide some structure to the soft stuff. To me it's like having an airbag with not enough bag. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0
