Do you have a bike build "work in progress"? that's well not progressing

Name and shame here, what & why not.

I'll start

1980s Dave Quinn steel, hoping to become a multi purpose FGSS in the winter and perhaps classic touring at other times.

It's stripped to the frame I have all the parts for both set ups but laziness has held me back from taking it for a respray

Gooooo!!!!

Converting the Ribble back from single speed to geared, tracking the last couple of bolts down has taken a while - hopefully finished this weekend though!
  • For once I actually dont, although I've got a few ideas in the works.

A Raleigh Banana that I'm converting to FG (and have been for months).
Got everything I need apart from a bottom bracket. Once that is bought and fitted, I'm ready to roll.

I've also decided to strip the parts off of my cracked Giant OCR frame and add them to the parts bin and then mount the frame on a wall, all arty like.

The Mercian listed in my sig is taking a lot longer than originally planned. Mainly due to the house swallowing virtually all available funds and time, but also due to a chronic inabilty to decide how I want to rebuild it - vintage kit or modern groupset?.Am getting there, but must try harder.

Come on lad pull thee finger out, i'm gonna help buy building my old steel with all modern parts in the classic style 8)

Ignoring the big box of old skool parts I have, besides I have new fulcrum wheelset black/red that needs using.

My station wreck. Claude Butler Legend frame that I'm converting to single speed. The BB currently fitted is too short so I need to swap it out for the one I've got waiting in the drawer. It's been that was for 18 months.

  • I'm planning on a Cotic Roadrat disced/geared CX bike build. I'm so lazy I don't have any of the parts. Nor do I have the money to buy the parts. Nor do I even have a job to earn the money to buy the parts (they keep putting my start date back, anyone thinking of calling me a dole scrounger).

I have a 1980s bike (nothing special, budget Italian model - lugged frame though) in the shed awaiting wire brush and respray. It's been there for about three years. I've even built a new shed in that time.

I'm not saying I'm slow, but I once bought a modern groupset for a project. It was vintage kit by the time I'd finished....

Apart from fitting a mudguard, which doesn't stop me riding it, currently nothing outstanding.

I have a summer fixed that I've been trying to build up for a couple of years

I've not got round to thinking about the running gear as the bottom bracket sizing is uncertain as I've not yest sourced the frame.

I'd like a classic quill set up but again - I'm nervous about getting it before the frame's sorted.

I have some tektro brakes I can fit to it - but they are junk so I won't.

So apart from a set of brakes that I'mnot going to use I don't have any of the bits at all....

It may take me some time

    Ahem

A very nice friend of mine by the name of ITB gave me a set of bars to stick on my GT in an attemtpt to turn it into a tourer.
    I got this far
    4596997406_9ba23ebca1.jpg
    That was back in May.

I need to get a stem that a) fits and b) is the right length/angle

Lots and lots to do after that.

    Finger out time

    Thanks Stephen

Ah thanks buddy, I think I'll need something more like a 60mm, I basically need to get bike and handlebars to my LBS for a fitting session (that phrase always reminds me of epilepsy)

I think I'll probably feel obliged to buy from them after trying my umpteenth stem.
Will get onto that soon - I promise. (Saturday 26th is my earliest opportunity)

Then I'll post the results here.

Hmmm this project has gotten a ta out of hand, frame and old forks resprayed in post box red which looks amazing, then I thought that's way to nice to just chuck any old headset, so I splashed on a new campag record 1" and some others new bits

Drat there goes the cheap rebuild.

  • Currently upgrading the rigid MTB. All I wanted was some new brakes and shifters, but discs require new wheels and forks, as well as rim tape, tubes, tyres, tools for transferring the cassette, starnut, spacers, and extra attachments for the brake hose. Plus if I want to use it to commute on 12-8 shifts I need lights and puncture repair gear. I swear I'm on the 6th order from CRC/Wiggle/ATC.

    Spec creep: it's deadly.

Don't whatever you do read Rob Penn's book - I've now got a hankering for some hand-built wheels with those nice Royce hubs. Can I afford those? Can I f***. One day...

In other news, planned shipping of Mercian frame up to Mercian for cold-setting, respray, lug-lining and decals has been delayed by brother not visiting to pick up frame. Looks like I'm going to have to take it up myself on the train (cheaper than postage).
