Inflated tyres this morning before my daily commute thought i would go up to max pressure on tyre wall of 80 lb then noticed after a bumpy ride home that both tyres had bulged, i have tried deflating tyres and re inflating but i think they are now scrap as they continue to bulge. I have checked tyre stock at my local Halfords they have a good deal on continental tyres 700 x 32 am i ok to put these on? as my current tyres are 700 x 40 and should i change my inner tubes??

  • Have the tyres pulled off the rim or is it the side wall that's bulging?

You are okay to use the tyres you suggest, innertubes are probably okay, but it would be wise to replace them, especially if they are a couple of years old any way.[/img]

No the tyres did not come off the rim just bulged on wall and sort of twisted, inner tubes are relatively new as bike is only 8 months old. Size on inner tube are 700 x 35/43.
  • Sounds like the tyres' carcasses have gone, normally over-inflation or age.

You can talc the tubes before fitting, reduces the amount of rubbing. Especially on tubes 'too big' for the tyres as they can develop folds which abrade the tubes.
