Water bottle attachment

May sound like a daft question but here goes!.....

What tube is it best to fit a water bottle attachment onto?

I have screws on my down tube and my seat tube. Is it just personal preference or is one more commonly used for water bottles than the other?

  • Both, or if you really want to only go for one just whatever looks good in your opinion, and feels comfortable to reach for.
  • Do you dodge the cracks when walking on a pavement?

Haha I knew it was a daft question!

I'm just completely new to this and was just checking that there's not some sort of 'right' way to have certain things on your bike. I don't want to look a complete fool, even though I sound like one!

I usually find it easiest to reach the bottle on the downtube, if I had only one cage that's where I would put it. During a ride I will swap the bottles over when the first is emptied.

I may be a little odd!

I must be odd too then because I also do this. I always drink from the bottle on the downtube.

My retro bike only has one set of bolts and that is a bit of a pain as I often go out for two or three bottle rides and have to stuff the extra ones in my back pockets.

You have to fit two bottle cages and they must be carbon. :D

Ahh, but do you want to be a follower, or a leader?
