Splitting a crown race

I'm toying with the idea of buying some rigid carbon froks for my HT but want the flexibility of being able to easily switch back to my suspension forks as and when the mood takes me.

I have an FSA Xtreme orbit headset with a steel crown race that is solid/un-split.

Question is, can I cut the race to effectively make a split to make installation and removal easier or should solid races remain solid???

Cheers...

if its for ease of switching the forks back and forward.....just buy another crown race?

its a fiver for the cr for 1+1/8 or about 8 quid for the 1.5"

if you split it yourself, you will probably have to buy a new one anyway! just buy it.

    people do.
    I dont.
and a classic was someone who was running a cut race with caged balls.

cut something that is round and meant to be an interference fit and will not be round when fitted.

I have done it on several of my head sets. Never gone wrong for me yet but not something I would reccomend to the mechanical numpties.
