XTR rear mech shifting question.

A mate has just has his bike serviced and he has now noticed that when changing down if he keeps the lever depressed it will change down more than one cog. Is this correct? I use Sram myself so cannot compare.

Poor adjustment OR:
If it's paired to an m970 shifter - it has multi release, thus 2 clicks and shifts to a smaller rear cog in one swoop. Genius.0 -
Speaking to my mate it appears that it's changing to the bigger cogs ie making it easier to pedal. He says that if he just pushes and releases it moves up one cog but if he pushes further and holds it changes up to three cogs. He thinks his shifters are XT but he's not sure.
It sounds like its not been tuned properly to me but I'm no expert. My last bike ran with a Xt rear mech and SLX shifters and this didn't happen to me.0 -
Well that's completely normal from Deore to XTR.
My XTR can just get from the smallest cog to the biggest cog in 2 full sweeps of the bottom lever, it requires 3 on my Deores.0 -
yip. normal.
same with my sram x7 shifter on x9 mech....push the big thumb changer a wee bit and it changes one. push it right in for up to 3 shifts in one movement.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Perfectly correct - one click one gear, big push three gears.I don't do smileys.

yep, my SRAM X5 does exactly the same, I can actally go all the way up/down the block with 2 presses if I do it properly.0
