It is most definately dodgy-he describes it as having cable disks, but the pic clearly shows they are hydraulic. Also, the cranks look to be alivo or deore , yet he describes them as XTR. Having alivo cranks on a cannondale with a lefty fork also seems wrong.

How can a CAAD5 be a 2011 model? At best he knows little about bikes.

  • Has anyone notified the police? I know they may not do much but something may happen.

    Looks like a 2003 F1000 SL

  • Just to let you all know, this bike is now in the possession of Cheshire Police who spotted that things didn’t add up with the advert and covertly arranged to view the bike. Can’t say we were massively helped by the “helpful” question on Ebay from someone questioning the bike’s legitimacy! All that does is spook the seller and they go to ground. I would suggest to anyone who spots something that looks to be stolen, rather than alert the “seller” to this fact, call the Police and speak to them. Most Forces have the capability to use covert tactics to deal with Ebay crimes.

We are having difficulty in finding the loser at the moment; you’d be amazed how many folk don’t record their frame numbers. This isn’t helped by the fact that Police Force property systems don’t speak to each other, so it’ll take a ring around several Forces to follow this up. What I would suggest is that if you’ve not already done so, register your bike on www.immobilise.com

This is free and if your bike is stolen, the frame numbers are searchable nationally by whichever Police area it turns up in. If we cannot reunite this bike with its owner, the “seller” gets it back!

Just to confirm it is a Cannondale F1000 SL (2003) with a Lefty DLR – spread the word and if you think it’s yours contact me on adam.waller@cheshire.pnn.police.uk

Ad on pistonheads has the mobile number used in the Ebay listing in the body of it. But, a different number listed below. He's plainly a tool, just not the sharpest one in the box.
Edit: Ignore that, I'm not very sharp either. It's a service Pistonheads offer to avoid sales calls. My bad...

I might ask eBay about it, but considering the wave of bike thefts, and the amount of them being sold on eBay, why hasn't eBay made a mandatory field for frame number?

now on ebay, coincidence as one of these went missing 1 or so months ago from a shop, see in stolen forum from Nikkibee.

It was stated that these are very rare in this country, about 5 or so in the country at the time

    just seeing what you think

  • My first post, been lurking for a while and read on here about how stolen bikes are sold on ebay. Been checking out ebay for my stolen Specialized and guess what, its on ebay right now, pretty sure its mine as its being sold within 5 miles of my flat in London. Insurance are paying out on it so not sure what to do next, I have a crime number from the local police etc.

Get on to the police. Just because insurance is paying out doesn't mean the thieving little barstewards should get away with it.
I got my bike back after it appeared on Ebay 6 weeks after being nicked. Had to pester the police a few times to make them do it. As you are in London try to get hold of the cycling task force they will have more interest in doing something about it.
Make sure you can prove it's yours. Have you got the frame number?
The insurance had paid out on my bike, I told them I'd got it back and they didn't know what to do. I wound up keeping the money and the bike. Premium went up a little bit.
Let me know if you need any more advice, good luck with it.
