Wheezing shocks - time for a service?

The last couple of times I've given the shocks a proper work-out (rock-gardens etc.), they've been making a bit of a wheezing noise similar to the noise you get from a dog's squeaky toy when the squeaker is missing. They always used to make a squelching sort of noise which I have always assumed to be the oil moving about, but it's been replaced by wheezing. Performance doesn't seem to have been affected and there are no other unusual noises. I've never bottomed them out.
I've had the bike about a year now. The shocks are RockShox Tora SL (2010 Trek 6300 http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/bikes/2010/archive/6300e ). I was going to get the bike serviced in the spring anyway, but is this noise a sign that the shocks need it?
Just had a thought; I recently changed the rebound to a faster setting. Could it be that?

Yes and yes.
Like you say, they're probably due for a service after a year. RS forks do normally make a noise though, and this could have been affected by changing the rebound.0 -
