Thomas The Tank Engine SPD-SLs colour coordinated with the bike, Air horn, single speed (or fixie), frame with track ends...

Future SCR champ! I wonder what his FCN is? One thing is for sure, the 10 on his (no doubt gel) saddle isn't representative of his place in the food chain.

  • What's the FCN modifier for stabilisers?

To the OP, can your future SCR champ ride yet?

If not, can I suggest removing the pedals (whole chainset ideally) and the stabilisers then lowering the saddle to turn the bike into a balance bike.
Let the nipper scoot around on that until he's got the hang of balancing, braking and turning. Once he's got that sorted, put the pedals and chainset back on and he should be riding pretty much straight away.

Basically, stabilisers slow down the learning to ride process as they become a crutch and learning to balance takes second place to pedaling, because pedaling is easy and stabilsers take learning to balance out of the equation.
Scooting without stabilisers teaches balance straight away. Once balance is sorted adding pedals into the equation is an easy step for the little'un to grasp.

I've taught a couple of kids doing using that technnique and someone else on here uses that technique professionally. It works.
19 month old balancing and steering video.
Somewhere on youtube there is a series of videos of a kid's progress from balance bike to pedal bike in an afternoon.
