Hi all
I'm going to be swapping my forks from one bike to another. Looking for suggestions on removing and re-fitting the crown race without causing damage.

looked in the FAQs?
there is a how to with pics."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Did one yesterday for the first time.
I don't know if you have any of the special tools recommended, but i removed the crown race firstly using a stanley blade to begin the lifting, moving onto a flat bladed screwdriver when i had enough leverage. It was then a case of cerefully tapping it off with the screwdriver and a rubber mallet.
To fit the new one, i put plenty of grease around the bottom of the steerer, pushed the crown on as far as it would go then got hold of a length of PVC tube, just over 1 1/8th in diameter and banged the race on using that. I checked the race and there was no damage from the pipe which was nice0 -
I've done it with a small flat bladed screwdriver and a hammer a few times, as long as you're fairly careful, it's fine.0

Stanley blade tends to work well for removal followed by a careful screwdriver.
Hoover pipes seem to work very well for fitting, particularly the metal ones with the plastic collars (to prevent damage to the race)0
