    Blazing Saddles.

Failing that, The Searchers or the Wild Bunch or one of the spaghetti westerns.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and The Long Riders. Both have great music as well.

Tom Horn is underated in my opinion, and I still like The Mag' 7 and Once Upon A Time In The West for a bit of nostalgia..... 8)

I like Westerns - but two of my favourites:-

The Outlaw Josey Wales - ' Endeavour to persevere.'

    Unforgiven

have already been chosen, so how about something different.

Three burials - the blurb on the cover quotes Total film as saying it's 'The finest Western since Unforgiven.' Is it a western though?

No Country for old men. I would say it's definitely a Western, in an old-fashioned morality tale type of way.

    both Tommy Lee Jones.

    *puts fingers in ears*

    lalalala no no no lalalala!!

Massive, massive fan of the original True Grit.. if you like John Wayne then people should watch The Cowboys and Rio Grande. ...or The Sons of Katie Elder

Spagetti Westerns are cool too. I agree with Neeb, OUATinTheWest is probably the best of these, the most interesting is a Fist Full of Dynamite. Clint doesnt even feature - he's more the posterboy that got it all started imo. (Not that his period in SWs isnt worth watching, they're still iconic in everyway)

It was when Clint began directing that I think he made some really interesting western movies.

Other films I love 3.10 to Yuma. The original, not the new one, and if you're into westerns watch some Akira Kurosawa movies like Red Beard, Yojimbo and Severn Samurai.
  • I prefer those 1950s/60s "easterns", but I've not yet seen Red Beard – had it on video, but lost it somewhere..

Who supported and voted for the Democrats.. :?

@Le Commentateur - you should definately watch Red Beard. Its more grown up, less action, a turning point for Kurosawa imo.
  • My favourite Western....

Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid.

    Newman and Redford, nuff said!
Let's close our eyes and see what happens

Wayne claimed in his Playboy interview to have been a socialist during his years at college, and he admitted voting for Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1936 presidential election. In the same interview he also expressed admiration for Democratic President Harry S Truman.[26] However, for most of his career he was a vocally conservative Republican. He took part in creating the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals in February 1944 and was elected president of that organization in 1947. He was an ardent anti-communist, and vocal supporter of the House Un-American Activities Committee. In 1952, he made Big Jim McLain to show his support for the anti-communist cause.

  • Ansell Adams was more grandiose but more limited in scope than Edward Weston but overall Weston wins for me on range, variety & a more surreal eye

    & blazing saddles.
