so ive just got back from a 20mile casual ride and as i was doing my post ride bike checks i noticed the front tyre (gp4000) had a small chunk missing from the middle of the tyre. im not sure how many layers have been taken off, you cant see the innertube, and its literally only about 5mm x 5mm, but im concerned it is going to be a weak spot now?

should i change it? or will it be ok?

thanks

Unless it's cut right through the carcass, then it should be OK
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

If the missing chunk has exposed the threads that provide the strength to the tyre, they have no protection and will wear through relatively quickly if "in the middle" means that that patch of tyre runs on the road. Once the threads wear enough, your tyre goes pop. This could be 20 miles from home.
Do you carry a spare tube and a piece of old tyre as a boot? How much do you want to make the tyre last longer?

A photo is required for a definitive answer.

Perhaps swap it with the back if the rear's in good condition? Otherwise don't worry

Have a few of them 'chunks' in my GP4000. Just check there are no bits of glass or sharp stone in them. Should be fine, always good to get into the habit of checking your tyres. As the old saying goes ' a checked tyre can still get a p*%n$*@e'.
