Hope Pro 2 QR adaptor being a stubborn little...

My next set of forks are going to be 15 or 20mm through axle so I need to remove the standard QR adaptors that came with my new wheels. One side pulled out by hand no problem but the other (disc mount, not that it should make any difference) just will not come out.
I've tried wiggling it with the added purchase of plies and knocking it out from the other side with a wood dowel but it just refuses to move any amount. It's a brand new wheelset delivered this morning from Merlin and everything spins freely, am I just being too protective of my shiny new treasures and need to use a bigger hammer and more force or is this something that has cropped up before and needs a more refined approach?
