Will give that a listen. I'm half way through Robert Penn's book atm, and I there's a lot of history within that. Of particular interest wrt Messrs Clarkson et al is the fact that the introduction of the bicycle led to massive improvements in the road network. Apparently in the mid 19th century, the railways had wiped out stage coaches, and the roads were in a worse state than the end of the 18th century. It was through campaigning by various cycling bodies including the forerunner of the CTC that roads were brought up to a standard that could be ridden (and later driven on).

5/10. The new craze for cycling inspires artists, musicians, writers, sportsmen and gamblers

Ooh. It's flagged as 5/10 so it must be on next week as well, which means they'll have time to investigate the road tax / pavement riders / RLJ aspect of riding a bike for pleasure.
