Cycling computer - Magic???

I have recently bought a CS200cad that so far has worked beautifully on several rides. I do however think it might be possessed....
I went for a run last night and took it with me to use as a heart rate moniter, so therefore it has no access to any speed or cadence sensors...... I also took with me my iphone with GPS runkeeper that tracks the route.
Final run was 3.38 miles.
How the hell did my cycle computer know this!!!!!!????? When I looked at the saved file it had recorded all heart rate data as expected but also said i'd covered 3 miles at a very simliar average speed to the gps????
Is this a fluke caused by interferrance or does it in someway track distance via magic??
Yours very confused....
