Hi there!
I am looking for a solid frame to build a commuter bike. I am thinking of something like a cyclocross frame, as I might throw some fireroad riding in my daily commute.
I am not looking for a full blown carbon fiber, ultra light sort of road bike. The idea is building a quick, fun and reliable single speed steel or cromoly bike with a lot of soul
I have just started my search and the Cotic Roadrat seems quite cool. Any other brands you can recomend? I am mostly interested in the small frame producers, as they have the raddest proposals
Cheers!

All my suggestions are likely to be deeply uncool. And the best commuter bikes are also ... deeply uncool. But hey, I wish you every success in your cool project.0

And they stole the 'RoadRat' name from Cinelli. Now, the Cinelli RoadRat was a class bike that got the basics right - 26" is so much better for commuting/utility cycling than 700c. And it had drops. Seriously cool bike that was.0
