What Cheap GPS Logger?

I'm looking for a stand alone GPS receiver purely for logging my rides. Not worried abot cycle computer functions etc, just after a logger that will track my route/speed etc in a GPX file as the app I use on my phone drains the battery after about 3 hrs.

I have had the Holux 245 suggested which looks good value.

Can anybody suggest something half decent please?

  • What do you consider "cheap"? The Garmin Forerunner watches are around £100 - is that "cheap"? I'm sure they can be had for less secondhand.

  • Well, the Holux is around £50 online & has good reviews.

Try the classified section - I got a garmin edge 205 for £75 - probably one of the best VFM purchases I have made. I use it mainly as a mile logger - but the other stuff has proved useful - I used to plot a route over some stonking hills - before winter set in.
  • What phone do you have? The cyclemeter app on my iPhone runs for 6 hours and uses only 3/4 of the battery life.

HTC Desire, which has awful battery life.

I have an iGotU 120 - just under £40 from Pixmania inc shipping. Now I can find out where I've been on my mountain bike.

I went with one of the Garmin Forerunner 305's that Amazon were knocking out for £105. Might be a bit more expensive than the cheapest tracking but I find getting the HR data alongside the speed/distance/gradient useful plus you can also add a cadence sensor and track that as well.
  • have a look at the bryton ones.

Had a play with one yesterday and seems like a great product for the money.

Can you get runkeeper for the HTC?

I use it and its exellent - has a very useful site which it automatically downloads to for analysing and recoreding your rides....

It was free in Jan but normally £10

Endomondo is fantastic and runs on the Desire. I'm using it on my Motorola Android phone as a stop gap until I finally take the plunge and get a Garmin 500.

But the Bryton 30 isn't actually cheaper than a Garmin Edge 500.
    More problems but still living....
  • Bought the Holux 245 in the end, it's really rather excellent for £40.

Decathlon used to do a watch style GPS, almost identical to the old Garmin Forerunner 01 series. Geonaute I think they were called.

edit: ooooppss sorry I see you've bought something now.
