I was driving into Guildford this morning along the Epsom Road and witnessed a guy riding flat out in the cycle lane but on the wrong side of the road! There are cycle lanes on both sides but he decided that he would ride flat out against the traffic! He was late 20s,-early 30’s, wearing a helmet, had a work bag and was on a 20" wheeled folder of some kind. He looked like he was heading to the train station.

I saw a transit van have to change road position quickly to give him more room (rider had a wobble as he peddling hard) the driver probably caught out by the closing speed of bike and van.

There is more than enough aggression towards us cyclists without fools like giving ammunition to the anti-cycling brigade.
Somewhere in the Surrey Hills :-)

In New York this is referred to as "salmoning" (because they're riding upstream).

Over there it's the result of confused guidance given to cyclists to the effect that they should travel against traffic, as if they were walkers on roads without pavements. No idea why someone in the UK would be doing it, though.

    US immigrant?

With V5 though, idiots give us all a bad rep, like bad women drivers adversely affect those who are totally competant behind the wheel.
