Bottom bracket - Crankset compatibility?

I need a new external bottom bracket - but am happy with my current crankset - are all makes and models compatible? Is it an industry size?

Cranks are TruVativ Firex - would they work with this?:

They'll work with the bottom ones but not the top one, GXP is a daft proprietary standard.

Truvativ cranks are ONLY compatible with truvativ BB's. Some external BB's (hope) are compatible with the purchase of an adaptor. Shimano BB's are NOT compatible with truvativ cranks.
