Carrera Vengeance Ultimate Stem

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the specs for the standard stem on this bike? Length and angle really. I can't check mine as it's not stored at home. All google tells me is it's an Ahead stem.
I'm looking to get a shorter one. Do i need to get a different angle if I change the length? Or if i'm happy with the current set-up except for the reach, should i stick with the same angle?

Thanks

You'll need more angle to get the same height.

Also remember, you'll be sitting more upright anyway, so you probably won't need more rise.

  • So which is it?lol I got 2 answers saying opposite to each other!

Also I managed to measure my bike it has 100mm stem. But i have no idea of the angle if anyone knows? Need to know which angle to start looking at others to compare.

What I mean is, if your hands are further back, you will be more upright, so it will feel like the bars are higher. The rise will probably be around 5-10 degrees.

This is a handy diagram, if a bit hard to read.

  • Ok thanks. I did find that diagram somewhere else but it was tiny! Is there any easy way of finding out the angle? Other than printing the diagram off i suppose.

How does the angle effect the handling? I see on a lot of the other bikes in my family etc are quite steep compared to my fairly flat stem. I'm more concerned about the reach atm but if I can improve the handling in any way then i'm open to ideas.

A shorter stem does make your steering quicker, it also enables you to sit further upright and gives more leverage on the handlebar.

The longer stem gets you more forward and in a better position for climbing but I think it makes low speed steering awkward and is uncomfortable for long stretches on the bike.

The angle doesn't really make much of a difference, as the amount of leverage you get stays the same. [/img]
