Hey guys, Thanks for clicking on this post, even if you don't reply you might be able to get information off this.

I recently bled my brakes with the shimano bleed kit, I have done this all before but this time after finishing the bleed and took her for a ride, I noticed that the levers were leaking a small amount of fluid from around the reservoir covers. I have tighten the covers on pretty tight, maybe thats why...that or too loosely.

Only thing I can think of is that one screw on each cover is slightly rounded and even though I can tighten them fairly securely that may not be tight enough!!

Any advise guys?

Thanks,
Marcos

Yes, the rubber seal is fitted - Unless there is another rubber seal that acts as a gasket...then I lost that. But I doubt it, When I do work on things i make a habit of remembering and placing this items down in order so when i come to put them back together its all in order.

The method used was - after bleeding - fill up the fluid right to the top and place the rubber "seal" back in to make sure there is no more air left to mess up the good work.

    Thanks though. :)

Split in the rubber or something trapped in there just enough to break the seal? I can't think of much else that'd do that.
Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.
  • my xtr lever did the same thing.
It was still in warranty so i sent it off. Came back with a new lever and a brand new xtr caliper even though the original was only xt plus bleed kit and pads. Bloody good service

Have you put the caps the right way round? I had a similar problem until I realised what I'd done.

I'll check the rubber for splits first that'll be the only thing I can think that'd be faulty. As for the caps, there is only one way to fit them and I only bled one side at a time. Thanks guys.

I wish (as with most things is my life) that I could buy new things, such as new xt/xtr brakes, because unfortunately old things tend to have more problems. This on a plus side, this means I'll have more experience changing and fixing them, but its way too much hassle sometimes even for a competent mechanic myself.

    ahrrrr!!!!! :)
