Hi

Spez rockhopper08
had for about year and a bit and great bike. issue i have though apart from 2 out of true wheels(not much to do though about them )

is that my front derailleur seems to be clipping the chain, so when i pedal in 3rd gear high i get a rubbing sound as the chain rubs along the derailleur.

how can i fix this and hopefully stop this anoying noise, i cant find any guides for doing it here and pretty sure it be simple enough to do myself.

Read the faq or go to Sheldon Brown or Parktools for guidance, you just need to reindex it I suspect.

To clarify "3rd gear high" means what in English? largest ring at the front I assume?

Is it rubbing the inside or outside of the cage? (Inside nearest frame, outside furthest from)

Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Did you try park tools? You'll have most prob lost some cable (or stretched/moved the adjuster), twisted the mech or bent something. Hope it's not the latter!

All there, check the alignment and read about indexing.
  • Also check for play in the bottom bracket. Pull a crank arm side to side and it should not move.
  • going to take some pictures as i been reading though the guides and i think i might know the problem but il post a picture as that will exsplain a lot clearer.
