Budget brakes

Anyone got any links or seen any sets of brakes as I need to replace on my winter hack (giant reign) anything as powerful as tektro's or something for general riding but on a tight budget.... Nothing extreme just good general stoppers!

I tried the Skeletals a while back. Didnt think much to them at all, but then again they wer only about £50 so i suppose you get what you pay for......rattly lever, cheap caliper and only "ok" performance - the new versions are just a different colour i think!
If you're looking around the £90 there's far more out there (unless you mean £90 for the pair, then you'll understand when i say, you get what you pay for because the only competition at that price will be cable discs)0 -
Just seen this posted on another threadI've just subscribed to What Mountain Bike and the March issue arrived in the post about last Thursday.
In it is a big disk brake test 19 products £70-£300.
1st - Shimano Deore M595 £110
2nd - Formula R1 £254
3rd - Gusset Chute £70
May be of use?

I have used Shimano's low end hydraulics and I didn't like them at all. Decent modulation, but lacking in overall stopping power. I way prefer Magura's low end brakes, like the Julie HP. Definitely as good as some pricier brakes. Shop around, I got them for £60 a brake.Life's too short to be boring.

Just to balance out the last post, I have m595s and have found them comfy, powerful enough (for me, can't comment on absolute power- they did well on the wmb dyno though) and easy to look after.Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0
