Shimano disc brakes BR-M486 - adjustments

Hi,
I have just put new discs on both front and back and now I have the following problem.
The rear is sticking slightly but there is good grab in the lever and you do not need to pull all the way back to the grip in order to get full breaking.
The front is the opposite, it runs freely but you need to pull all the way back to the grips and I don't think I'm getting full breaking.
Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I have looked around. I'm new to the maintenance side I'm hoping I'm not going to need syringes etc (gulp!) to resolve!
Many thanks for any help,
Mark.

Try pulling the levers back towards the bars with some tie wraps or elastic bands and leave them like that overnight or preferably longer.
Every set of brakes I've had mail order has been pure mush on arrival I think they need a little help to firm them up without resorting to the bleed kit.
I'm assuming you've centered the calipers.0
