Stans/Kenda hatred

Ok, so I know about the sealant/exploding tyre thing, but do stans and kenda products just hate each other in general? Just been yellow taping up a set of crest rims. Fitted the first, stuck on a sb8- took a fair bit of work to get on and then a seriously high pressure to seat. Tried a ralph on the second- easy on, seated at a normal high pressure, rather than 'starting to get worried I might blow this off the rim'.

Anyone else found this?

Oh, and Northwind, if you see this, do I remember right you saying you'd been running kendas with stans for a while now and it hadn't tried to kill you?

He uses Kenda in his own promo video(s) so can't be that bad, surely?
  • I have a kenda nevegal fitted to a ztr flow rim. had to take it up to about 60psi to get it seated, and it took a while to get it properly sealed around the bead (lots of shaking around etc), but once I got it fitted properly etc it has been fine.

If they are regular tyres, then yes, they are more prone to going bang at higher pressures. Thats why UST and TR tyres have different beads to lower the chances of it happening.

    o/

Yep, still using Kendas tubeless with Stans, still no bother at all (or with any other tyre actually). Officially rated by me for Mincing Down Downhill Trails. I did manage to knock one off the rim a bit in france but then, I knocked a bit off the rim too so that's only reasonable. (Kids! Don't ride sideways into massive rocks, when the guide says there's no line down that side he means it!).

Can take a bit of effort to get them seated/sealed, with the standard issue ones- I have a UST Nevegal somewhere and it snaps on dead easily- but I think the only tyres I have that need such high pressures to seat are wire beaded swampies.

    Spot on for me then!

Sounds alright- on the sealant thing I was more or less happy with it. I had assumed it was the rims, but after the ralph went on easily I just wondered. Ah well, I'll just have to get the compressor up and running, I cba with all the pumping...

Oh, and have you tried any other sealants? Stans do?

Stans works for me so I keep using it, tbh all the other ones could be better and I'll never know
