I am looking to upgrade my forks and am totally lost i am 5 foot 7 and 180 pounds and recently bought my first hardtail (giant xtc 4 se 2003 small) but find the manitou axel forks far to soft.I have been looking at a set second hand from the classified that will do for travelling to work and for a bit of trial riding at the weekends and have been looking at rebas or revelations or sid teams but have looked that much at reviews i am a little confused which would be best please help thanks?

Rebas are the logical choice. The XTC is designed around a 80-100mm fork. If you want to save a bit of weight a SID will do, but are flexier and not as robust, especially pre 2009 models.

Out of interest would the revelations work ok as they seem to have great feedback?

Oh sorry forgot to ask is there much of a difference between 2008 and 2009 model without u turn apart from the travel thanks?
  • Get the rebas sl from merlin cycles. Only £230. Just bought them and they are the nicest forks I've ever had.

u turns wont be that much use to you judging from the riding that you're doing. Reba's with pop loc will allow you to lock on from the handlebar for your commute which may be of use to you.

As said above merlin are doing some great offers, well worth a look.

Reba. End of. The weight difference between the two isn't worth it unless you're a racer.

  • Everyone's said it; & yup, Rockshox seem to have got it spot on with the Reba forks.

I tried looking around & researching other forks, but for the money, reviews & value, just always ended up back looking at the Reba.
