Dear all
I'm cycling up Mt Teide in March with a couple of mates and concerned about what clothing to take. The research I've done suggests it can be very cold near the summit yet 25 degrees C further down.
I was thinking the usual short-sleeve jersey and bibshorts for the climb with a windproof shell rolled up and stuffed into a pocket ready for the descent. Is it worth taking full finger gloves too?
What are your suggestions with regard to the above?
Cheers

Yes, it will be cold... if you are lucky only on the descent though. Conditions can vary immensely and you could even be snowed on up there. Your best bet is to call ahead before you take off to ask what the conditions are like. There is a Parador hotel (http://www.parador.es/en/cargarFichaParador.do?parador=023) where I would check. In any case, I would bring a dry undershirt, arm- and legwarmers, a head cap plus full finger gloves and a windproof shell. It is a beautiful ride. Very tough, not because of the grade but because of the length and the altitude. Good luck!European Cycling Trips: http://bikeplustours.com0

I have a mate who lives there. He rides up Teide in shorts and short sleeves but puts a cap, a windtop, arm warmers, and sometimes leg warmers on for the descent. He hates the cold, which is why he fled the UK in the first place!
He loves the climb and the descent. One day, I'll go and visit him but not until I'm fit enough to cope with Teide.0 -
Brilliant guys, thank you for your feedback.
I'm really looking forward to going!!0 -
I went up in October - snow near the summit, warm on the way up, but bitter overnight. Subject to strong west winds on the summit. Make sure you have suncream even in March as you burn easily at that altitude0

There's a good 'L O N G' ;-) write-up, with pictures, here by a friend of mine who did it last year.

Yes!! It's those I've been reading - brilliant, honest write-ups. I printed off all of RICHYBOY's Tenerife ride reports in glossy colour last week0 -
Hello I cycled there in the middle of 2009 April.
There was a partly clody week, then it wasn't too warm and above 1000-1200m I needed jacket, but when it was sunny I could cycle only in a cycling jersey. But on the descent warmer clothes is needed.
