My stolen bike on eBay recovered and returned

Good thread!
Glad you did the right thing. Did you ask about the stolen databases?0 -
Yes I did ask about the stolen database. It is now a legit bike..... plus I have the original service document with my name and address on and the bike serial number for proof of ownership/transfer of ownership.
Stoo61 - the bike is about to go on ebay tomorrow. I gave it a good going over today, cleaned it up and it looks pretty damn good. The thief I recon knew what he'd nicked and didn't ride it, just sat with his investment in the garage till the heat cooled off......
Looking at others on ebay I'd hope to get £900+ for it as apart from a a few very minor general riding scuffs it really is in top condition and well looked after. Even got the autoglm on the paintwork and it has done wonders!0 -
Like these recovered and found on eBay stories.
Personally I would call the insurance up and say bike found by YOU and although it is a bit damaged you would like to keep it. I would record the call and make no further effort to contact them.
It is the insurance companies and although it won't affect your payout it could well effect future insurance claims if you don't tell them and they find out it was recovered - unlikely but technically it could.
oops hadn't read pg2 two - read it now.0 -
You kept your integrity. Can't put a price on that. It's a slippery slope.I don't do smileys.

Good grief , all this golden halo truth-telling holier than thou crap is making me wanna puke.
Insurers are the biggest legitimate swindlers out there , just itching to stiff everyone of you out of any claim they can wriggle out of.
Guilt can kiss my ass if i'm 400 notes better off from dicking the insurers.
Ahh , reality is restored. :twisted:0 -

I totally agree, they are robbing basturts. If you make a claim the race is on to find a reason why they shouldnt help you in your time of need.0 -
Great result! Let your insurer know and ask if you can keep it. Offer them a (low) price they would want if they say no. They may also put the boot into the thief by undertaking the civil claim against him/them, which is what matters most!0

They may well be (I agree fully on that point) but two wrongs do not make a right and morally and legally keeping the bike would be wrong.
I would have done exactly the same but I would have made sure they knew about all the damage that the thieves had done to the bike reducing it's value.
Good luck making back the money you lost though - at the end of the day you will be back where you started - nice bike and not out of pocket for the insurance and car damage an you won't have done any wrong.0 -
Balls to you all! I'm off to rob a granny to restore the balance!0

Tell the insurance company before they find out you've got the bike or you'll be in deep do-do!
They'll have to recover it at a cost to them if they want to, but they will probably let you have it for a nominal sum as it's not worth anything to them and will only cost them time and hassle dealing with it.
Re all the posts saying all insurance companies are cheats that try to wriggle out of claims, my experience is different. You get what you pay for: go for the lowest premium and you'll get rubbish service, go for a reputable (normally more expensive) company and it's generally fine. I've only ever had brilliant experiences with the few claims I've had.Somewhere in the Surrey Hills :-)0
