Will XTR 971 front mech work with 970 shifters.

In an earlier post I said how I'd damaged my front mech. I just want to know if a 971 front mech will work in the same way as my 970 front mech. Will it be compatible with my 970 shifters. I just want to confirm that it will before I buy 1 from Wiggle.

    It'll work with the shifters, but the 971 is a conventional (downswing or high band) and the 970 is topswing (low band) so it won't fit to your frame in the same way.
    And if it's a sus frame, it might not fit at all.

    I know its a different fitting. I'ts a Merlin XLM hardtail so it should be o.k. Thanks again for the advice.

    Bottle holder bolt holes get on the way too, sometimes.

    It turned up today. Its fitted and working like a dream. I'm off out on a night ride to test it out. Thanks for the replies.
