argh I roasted a chicken today and did barely anything to prepare it as didn't think I had anything in the cupboards totally forgot about using beer. have wanted to try it for ages too.

oh well. got plenty of chicken for sandwiches this week and am making stock from the carcass as I type so it got plenty of use.

I assumed "beer can chicken" was some joke about Geordies and bacon. Google has shown me otherwise.

I have come to the conclusion after much faff that the best recipe for Roast Chicken is:

    1 free range chicken
    Salt and pepper
    Drop of olive oil
Stick it in the oven until it's cooked

I did this a few times o a BBQ last summer.

Absolutely delicious. But, after a bit of experimenting found the actual liquid in the beer can made little difference, I also found a beer can to be a bit big for smaller chickes and made it hard to stand up, kept falling over.

Best results I had were a washed diet coke can with white wine and chicken stock as the liquid.

This is what she looks like 45 minutes at 200C after picture one was taken, crisp non-greasy gorgousness!
