Following on frmo the thread where I asked about a bike for my dad...
My dad has now bought his bike...Spent abit more than I thought he would... He ended up with asecond hand 2010 Trek 8500. The bloke who we bought it off had got the LBS to strip it completly and upgrade ALL of the components from XT to XTR! He also threw in quite a few things like a pair of unused endura humvee 3/4's, a new pair of fox sergent shorts, 2 new fox jerseys, a brand new race face jacket, the original tyres (unused), saddle bag, specialized tool kit, carbon bottle cage, cat eye computer, cat eye light, a few inner tubes.
The bike had been wrapped in heli tape so not a mark on it. Here is the spec...
frame trek 8500 red alloy 2010
fork fox f100 remote handlebar lockout
chainset shimano xtr 2010
shifters shimano xtr 2010
front mech shimano xtr 2010
raer mech shimano xtr shadow carbon 2010
brakes shimano xtr trail with tool free lever adjust and air cooled pads 2011
cassette shimano xtr ti 11 34 2010
discs shimano xtr 180 f 160 r
qr shimano xtr
wheels mavic crosstrail 2010 with manuals and tl valves
chain sram 991 hollow pin xtr was a bit noisey but do have it
Peddles dmr v 12 mags gray whith gold pins
saddle sdg bellair ti
seat post bontrager rxl carbon
bars bontrager rxl carbon
stem bontrager rxl alloy
grips bontrager rxl lock on
tyres conti mountain king supersonic 2.2
And here is a picture off the add off ebay...
He has since removed the mudguards and put the computer onto the stem. Also he has bought a hope QR seatclamp.Any comments welcome We both know that it is WAYYY over specced for his abbilities but hey who cares. If he likes it what matters eh!

Not to sure to be honest, not had it on the scales. Apparantly the standard bike with XT weighs 23.1lbs. So with full XTR i'll guess about 22.5lbs maybe less. I need to get it onto the scales. What is the best way to weigh a bike? :roll:0 -

Not as much as you may think0 -
Not sure how accurate, but get yourself onto the scales, and then get yourself again while holding the bike on your arms. Difference will be the weight of the bike. Again, not sure how accurate, but it will do the trick I imagine :-)Saracen Ruftrax2 (now only for commuting, later for touring)
Cube LTD Race 2011
Specialized Allez Sport 27 20070 -

Me too haha!!0 -
That's nice - quite striking looking too.
Hope he left a bit of cash for a decent lock - Granit x plus 54 does the trick!0 -
