Hello to all >>>

I want your advice to upgrade my bike Specialized Allez, I ask some local bike shop about the upgrade and everyone has different idea and everyone pushing me to by his product and very dificult to trust who is in business ..

I have Specialized Allez, and I want to upgrad to higher level. my budget is 3000 USD....

1. do you think is better to change all the bike and upgrade to carbon ?

Or

2. to keep the frame and change some parts like wheel set and shifter group ?

if you prefer to change some parts which part is batter for who is doing just 150 km per week and just for training not race
(zzip wheel set or Dura Ace)
(Dura Ace groupset shifter or ultegra groupset )

thanks a lot in advance

  • I've got an Allez elite from 2007, it's a nice bike but my plan is to relegate it to a winter/training bike as soon as possible. I feel the geometry is too sportive centred (thank god I don't have a compact on it though!) and I want something racier for the future. If I were to keep it and upgrade, I would definitely change the wheels (I've got Mavic CXP22 rims with unbranded hubs), they're good for taking punishment on rough roads but I can't wait to try out some lighter wheels in the future. Personally, I think you should keep it and save for a nicer bike - then you'll have two; one for the sunshine, one for the rain :-)

    thanks a lot DHL1985......

you are absolutely right... but I'm living in Dubai than no alot of rain and always sun and dry :)

as you know specialized Allez it comes with bad quality rims and shifter... that's way I want to upgrade ..... and agree with you to keep the frame :)

thank for sharing your experiences with us... :)

Errr...no, no its doesn't, it depends on what Allez you have, I have an Elite, and have done ALOT on it, infact at Cat4 crits, its not unsual to see Allez's on the podium

Biggest change you can make is the tyres, as the specialized tyres are very poor, next its the wheels, apart from that, I wouldn't bother, save the money and buy a higher spec bike.

Elite it comes with good parts like ( Mavic CXP22 rim & Shimano 105). but mine really very basic...

If I bought rims, tyer and some good derailleur then I can shift all the parts to new frame in future...

    which tire you recommend ?

thanks a alot your command was really positive :)

I have an Allez. Relegated from my do it all bike to my winter bike.

I would't advise spending 3,000 USD on an upgrade. Keep it as a hack, or sell for a few 100 USD and then start again.

My preference would be a carbon frame/ultegra groupset combo.

    Something like:
    CANNONDALE Six Carbon Ultegra Compact

For a summer tyre Michelin Pro3Race are good / on a par with the other top tyres.

    3. Upgrade the parts as they wear out.

Dont think so. I have a 2008 and its exactly the same geometry as the Tarmac. Sportive geometry would be like the Roubaix.
    Pegoretti
    Colnago
    Cervelo
    Campagnolo

thanks to all of you... alot of information ....

I didn't find any sign showing the model of Allez !!!!

anyway I will write down the name of the component

    1. wheel set : Jalco GX 460
    2. Tire: Specialized Mondo 700X23c
    3. Derailaur : Shimano Tiagra
    4. crank: Sugino
    5. Ergopower Shigters: Shimano SORA Flightdeck.
  • My elite is 2007 and it's got quite a large head-tube, as I said - "I feel the geometry is too sportive centred". Agreed the Roubaix is Specialized's do-it-all sportive bike, but for a lanky person like me I feel the Allez's sloping downtube leaves me sitting up a bit too much. Don't get me wrong I love the bike (£150!), but just think it's more suitable for some things, rather than others.

Sounds like yours might be the wrong size for you, as the geo on the Allez is not "sit up", its the same geo as the tarmac, infact, I've seen the Allez on the podium of low(er) cat races many times.....

I ask the bike shop around in my city for upgrade my bike...... I shocked when I hear the price !!!!! 2400 USD just for 105 groupset and normal wheel set from Mavic... In same shop I found Complete Bike carbon from Scott with 105 groupset and same level of previous wheelset just for 3100 USD !!!!!!!!!!!!

Is better to buy new bike instead of UPGRAD .....

you can get alot of bike for 3,000 USD, you should just keep the Allez for commuting or general use, get yourself a really nice carbon bike for your proper rides. Also sadly, you tend to pay more then you need to in a lot of local bike shops, best bet is online.
