Schwable Tyres.

Just after some advice.
I want either the Rocket Rons or Racing Ralphs or a mixture.
Firstly which are lightest and by how much? I presume it's the ralphs.
I'll be using the tyre for xc racing, from when it becomes dry but if it does rain I won't change I assume the rons are better in the wet but how good are the ralphs, I assume relativley poor?
How fast are the ralphs, is the sacrifice in grip negligble enough to use them instead.
Finally I'll be running them tubeless, so is it necessary to use the tubeless version or should I seal the non tubeless ones to save weight?
What are the advantages of the evolution version also?

Considering you seem to know little about those tyres why have you narrowed it down to those?
Rons are lighter by about 40-50g for a 2.1. They have more central tread, but less aggressive side lugs. In proper mud I actually think the Ralph is marginally better (neither are good), as they have more aggressive cornering tread. The Rons are better if it's just a bit wet.
For 2011 they're all 'tubeless ready' and are designed to be run with sealant. The older ones sealed really well, I wouldn't bother with the extra bulk of the USTs.
If you're going to be doing a lot of rocky races I'd go for the Ralphs as they're a slightly thicker carcass.
Rons have a higher wear rate, but IMO are the better tyre. Combine with a Fred on the back when it's dry for a very fast combination.0 -
It's not that I know very little, I just wasn't sure what I knew was 100% correct, I didn't want to be under any false pretences.
The Conti Race Kings are another option but not many sound convinced by them.0 -
The Supersonic Contis can be incredibly porous, and are very hit and miss when it comes to converting to tubeless. I used to use Explorer/Speed King SSs, now just use Schwalbes.
BTW my comment wasn't meant to sound quite as snarky as it perhaps did!0 -
Thanks for the advice I guess I'll get the Rons? When the weather gets better of course. Most of the stuff is sandy or clay based were I go riding, plenty of roots but no rocks.0

If you're only getting one set of race tyres then Rons would be my choice yes. The only course I choose Ralphs over Rons is Margam, because it can be a bit rocky, they're marginally bigger volume too.
I did rip 2 Rons at Pippingford last year too, on the same corner, so may use Ralphs there in future!0 -
Two! Ouch. Thanks for the advice, the rons are now added to my never ending list.0
