For years I have loved my Dawes Galaxy, apart from the poor braking quality of my Shimano cantilever brakes :? . Today all has been solved by the fitting of Veloce Mini V brakes at Condor Cycles, the braking quality is now superb :D . If you want to improve your brakes on drop levered bikes fit mini v's if your bike will allow it!

The Tektro canti's on my crosser really aren't to bad, although i did used to have a Dawes hybrid that i inherited from my father in law and that had some circa 1990 Shimano Altus canti's that were lethal, only had one ride on them and was so terrified that i stripped some v brakes of an old mtb and never looked back.

I don't recall the cantis on my old Galaxy being lacking in power IF they were set up properly, and IMO that's really where Vs score over cantis. On their day I think cantis are just as good as Vs.

Maybe the new type of cantis are better than the old type ones but for me V - brakes are fab its great when you can fly down a moutainside, with all my touring gear on the bike and brake at the last minute, only using a couple of fingers on the cross levers. Cantis and even the new Campag Athena caliper brakes don't come close, even when set up properly, to the stopping power v brakes that's my experience and would recommend anyone with problems on their Galaxy to make the upgrade!
