The large(top) ring on my Raceface ride chainset is worn. Can I replace it with another manufacturer's (a cheaper one) chainring or does it have to be Raceface....Are the four bolt positions holding the top and middle rings together of a universal or standard measurement or do different manufacturers have slightly different bolt positions?

If I were you shag I'd stop messing around with this mountain bike malarky and get a road bike.
  • Hi there
Any manufacturer will do as long as it is 4-bolt, for use with geared bikes (so takes a 9 spd chain and is ramped for changing gear), and has the same BCD as your current one.

The BCD refers to the diameter of the crank bolt pattern. And it should be stamped/printed on the current ring. Failing that manufacturer site or chain reaction may say.
