I'm upgrading the hopeless brakes on my Trek 1.5 to Ultegra 6600's, but the rear brake block arms don't seem long enough as the pads touch the tyres. I'm certainly not a skilled wrench but this seemed like a very straightforward job. Have I missed something or is it just that my frame is soooo big? (Yes, it does resemble a gate, but I like it.)

Not knowing your level of mechanical skill I'll just ask if you are aware that the brake pads can be moved up and downwards in the slots of the brake arms? Just undo the bolts holding the pads on the arms and move the pads down accordingly. I may be wrong but I believe the Trek uses the standard short reach brakes which the 6600's are as well and should fit fine. 8)
  • I've adjusted the brake pads the the bottom of the slot, however they still rub the tyre.

Can you post a pic of bike with new and old brakes? Possibly Trek used long reach brakes on yours.

How old is your bike? At least current Trek 1.5's use long reach brake, but I'm not sure about older ones. The frame changed some years ago. But it sounds very much like you need long reach brakes.
