Hi guys,

I've never liked itunes and until I got an iphone I've never had it on my computer. I've jailbreaked my phone and have it running just how I want it. Problem is now I can't back up my phones content because it wants to upgrade my software which means my jailbreaking and apps will be wiped.

Is there an alternative - I dont mind paying - that'll allow me to back up and restore my phone as well as allow me to put music on etc??

Cheers all.

    There's got to be something!

No need for name calling. If you've not got anything useful to add.....

For an iPhone? Get a grip!

I've been jailbreaking my iPhone 3G for years, however I also did a source jailbreak so it can be used on any network (like the stolen phones are) I used Yellowsnow and it worked great.
I also jailbroke the upper/interface firmware to use Cydia and other no Apple vetted Apps.

Jailbreaking is always a game of balance, new phone software is released and you need to hold back until a new Jailbreak is released.

Sadly you'll have to rely on iTunes to manage the phone, i.e. backing up contacts, iCal events, music and photos, but software updates are not mandatory. You do have the option NOT to install the software updates.

On a finishing note, I do use iTunes for Mac/OSX and it's a totally different animal to iTunes for Windows, the Apple boys did a half baked job on the Windows release..

Getting a grip isn't a problem for me (unlike those iPhone 4 users)

And what mobile phone related thread doesn't have a dickish comment about using another (superior) phone.

all versions of Iphone can be jailbroken*

use appsync to load all your cracked stuff to itunes.
    upgrade iphone software.
    jailbreak phone.
use appsync to reload cracked apps.

*just do a search on the net. This may only be available for people with Mac computers, like myself.

I'm prone to making the odd comment like that on the Guardian's tech section pages (which always erupt into the stupid "Apple V Android" debate). Purely for the sake of bamming people up you see. It's usually picked up as a wind up in that particular argument (though doesn't stop the biters). Here I'm getting the "You're an idiot that doesn't know about jailbreaking phones"...shows people here aren't as bitter fanboys as they are in the tech section pages :)

And Andy... I might be the "King Prat" but only you can be the number 1 mongo. You're giving me a lot of love recently. Starting to think you're wanting some forbidden love
