How to Watch Cycling on Eurosport For Free (and Not On-Line)

This might sound as if I know what I am talking about, but I believe German digital Eurosport is available for free on Astra 1M, #91.
But does anyone know if the German version offers as much or the same cycling coverage as British Eurosport?
And what size dish would be needed for Astra 1M?
Thanks.

I know you're talking about digital, but you can also pick up the International Eurosport analogue signal on a dish suitable for Freesat reception (or you can share the two with 2 LNBs on one dish, as I do).0

I just had a quick look and on the main sats there are a few that are free..
Eurosport Deutschland Astra 1 (19 E) 11259H 0
Eurosport 2 Hungary & Romania Intelsat 10-02 (1 W) 12607H 27500 3/4
Eurosport Hotbird 9 (13 E) 11278V 27500 3/4
Go with a 80-100cm dish and you will be fine. On Satbeams it says 60cm but you might want to get other sats in the future
http://www.satbeams.com/footprints
I have a motorised system with 1.2 m dish and it goes from 30 West to 40E No problems.
Depending on your reciever and its capabilities. there are emulators that can un-scramble certain locked channels etc. If you need some advice or help. shoot me a pm0 -
Or don't be tight and pay for what you get ( this aimed squarely at tne 'unscrambling' comment ... I hope someone steals your dish ... Fair game as far as you're concerned ... No?)0

Do you speak German? :?0

I believe, schedule-wise, there's no such thing as German Eurosport, only British and International, the latter broadcast in several languages. If you have a set top box which has a language select function then you can watch it English.0

Yeah, we should all do this. Then Eurosport won't have any money and will spend less on cycling coverage.
Because that's a good thing.....0 -
The Strade-Bianche may not have a big field, but it is going to get live, international tv coverage. Maybe now Eurosport will snap it up.

They've confirmed it I think?Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Is it possible to receive Eurosport on Digital Freesat? Virgin keep increasing their prices and I am looking for an alternative.0

I am not judging anyone for wanting to watch things for free (i often search for threads for footy) but eurosport is not part of the extortionate sky sports pack but is in news and events - so a basic sky subscription and the news pack is about £20, and if u live in a city then their broadband bundle aint too bad.
However I appreciate some ppl dont want to put money in murdoch's pocket. The eurosport player is only £3.99 a month, so if u have decent broadband u can cut out sky and watch as much cycling, skiing, curling and even table football as u like.0 -
Eurosport on analogue has English language feed but digital does not (on free to air)
International (ie free to air) ES generally has at least as much cycling as British ES but sometimes things like the continentaly love of alpine sports means cycling gets relegated.
Benefit of a dish that can pick up digital ES etc is that on Hotbird, 13E is you can things like RAI - I watched the CX Worlds on their Sports channel last weekend (90 mins highlights, not live)0 -

They've confirmed it I think?
Yes.
I was thinking upon the UK Eurosport schedule only posted the other day.
Now this announcement would seem to be confirmation, but nothing is ever cast in stone, with our ES version.
I would think it almost certain it will get shown.
24 hours coverage seems an awful lot for Italian tv. T-A is usually the same as ES, with M-SR being maybe 30 minutes or so extra.
Here's hoping, what with me having Rai.

yea no doubt about ES doing an excellent job on their coverage. As far as I can remember, last year there were a few races on Eurosport 2 while another was on Eurosport.
One other cool thing about going with the EU sats is you can also get Eurosport 2 in HD now0 -

Not knowing much about sat TV, how would one go about getting RAI in the UK? And what do they have in respect of cycling?0 -

they have a fair bit of racing. Sometimes its hit and miss with their programming.
You need a 60cm dish and a receiver. You could probably set it up for about £100 depending on what type of receiver you get. Rai's picture quality is not the best but plenty of decent other stuff to watch on 13E0 -
As Doobz says, not a lot of cost for a lot of racing.
About £100 or so, although the sat dish size might have to go to 80cm, if you are "up north". Just point it at Hotbird.
Scheduling looks to be getting more consistent, with them now running 2 "free" sports channels.
Rai Sport 2 seems to have taken the regular cycling slot.
They had the TDU.
Today they have 1 hour of the GP Etruschi scheduled and they also repeat many broadcasts, if you miss.
They more or less show any Italian race of 1.1/2.1 or above. Some .2's U23, too and we even get the occasional glimpse of Emma Pooley winning!
Next up will be the Trofeo Laigueglia and the Giro di Sardinia
RAITRE also joins in for the T-A and the Giro, plus is does a few live races in mid August.
Oh and the also show all the Northern classics live, too, including any eurosport might miss."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Will an 80cm dish and an FTA receiver get RAI Sport 2 in the UK (I am in the Midlands)? Or is it a scrambled channel, thus requiring some more homework on my part to work out how to receive it? Thanks.0 -
All Rai's cycling remains free. Rai Sport 1 is mostly free, Rai Sport 2 is all free.
In the Midlands you could probably get away with a 60cm dish, but 80cms is better in case you want to add other sats.
Also, if you put 2 LNBs on a fixed dish and you can get both Hotbird (13East)and Astra 1(19East), which will get you the free German Eurosport, ARD, RTPi (Portugal) Etb (Basque) etc.
Will add about 10 quid to the total cost and give you loads more cycling ."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Ffs ... I bet you lot are riding round on thrice patched tubes ...it costs £7 extra to get Eurosport on Virgin, likely less on Sky ...
Better to spend over £100 on a broadcast you can't even understand tho eh ...0 -

a) These are races not covered in the UK.
b) Some of us can understand more than one language.
c) In anycase, if you need a commentator to explain what is going on................."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Just a word of warning. You don't want to Google "Hotbird" and "Virgin" in the same search  . "Hotbird" on it's own gets some interesting results  .Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.0 -

I live in a new build, which means: there's no cable connection and there is no phone line installed. I believe you have to have a phone line to get Sky, and I begrudge spending over £100 to have a line installed in this age of mobile phones/broadband.
In addition, I do not watch TV and do not have a TV License. I gonna ask TV Licensing if you need a licence for Hotbird/Astra sat television - probably do, but hopefully not.0
