Hi ive heard theres some great riding around here and was just after some info on specific routes around this area.

I'm going to be riding there soon and looking for a route that ideally starts close to Hebden Bridge train station (dont have a car).
Which direction would it be best to go? Around 20 - 30 mile route would be good. Where are the best descents for example the Mmm Bop trail which ive heard about?

Can anyone suggest a decent route to introduce me to the area?

Thanks

I'd recommend this book http://www.ernest-press.co.uk/mtb_southpennines.html You'll need OL21 map to go with it, but I've learnt some great routes from it

I've done a few routes round the area, but none of them are the steep and techy rock-fests for which Calderdale is known.

It would probably be worthwhile posting the same question on the STW forum, there are quite a few local riders on there who will be able to point you in the right direction.

Alternatively, pick up a copy of OS OL21, stitch together a few bridleways, and see what you find! 8)
  • Ok, cheers for the replies.

I'll probably do some of the Mary townely loop and see what I can find!

Tony's suggestion to look on the map is quite valid for Calderdale, most of the bridleways are quite rideable unlike some other areas. Also worth considering taking the train to Todmorden station rather than Hebden Bridge, also gives you access to the East of Rossendale and if you don't mind a nasty road climb you can get to Lee Quarry as well.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
