It's a real shame for cricket because Asif looked like a really promising prospect. But it looks like* he got sidetracked by a totally different kind of promises.

* allegedly, of course, the guy who predicted-for-money that Asif would bowl no balls at predetermined times might actually be psychic.

Personally I don't really think there's much comparison between the two.

Both are idiotic, both deserve lengthy/life bans, but I would still place drug-taking far above spot fixing on the naughtyness scale.

I just heard that the ICC have given Butt, Asif and Amir 10 year, 7 year and 5 year bans respectively. So of course their lawyers will now claim that they have no chance of getting a fair trial. But at least they'll be off the pitch while they're fighting that one...
