I just recieved DMR V8s and when you spin them the bearings feel quite rough. I have used up the syringe with the grease. I'm not even sure if I was meant to use it straight away, but anyway - now one pedal feels a bit smoother but still a bit of a grinding is felt and the other pedal feels as it did before the injection of grease.

I did not inject the grease into it as well as into the other though - as the syringe had a stop in it and as I was trying to get the flow going it popped and a bit of the grease was wasted around the hole as the syringe shifted. So not as much (I think) went into the one that feel rougher now.

Question being - can I use them straight away or will I need to get more grease? It's just a bit surprising as to how rough the rotations feel...

P.S. - the pedals are new.

The syringe is uselessly small. There's not even enough in it to flush out a single pedal.
And yeah, the bearings in DMRs are quite often rough. They're not particularly good, really.

Yeah... that syringe is pretty small.

Is it okay to use them without having to flush the pedals with grease?

Yeah, they should be greased from new, but you should flush them once in a while to clean out the old grotty grease and put some fresh stuff in.

they should be greased from new

Mmmkay, sorry for being slow, but do you mean they are okay to go without having to be greased from new, or they need to be greased from new? :P

    Oh yeah, that's vague!
What I mean is, when they are new, they already have grease in them. The syringe is for maintenance purposes!
    Sorry about that

    :D

I thank you for your services good Sar!
  • Go to your local motor factors and buy a pot of general purpose grease for about £3.
Whack a good syringe full into each pedal, you should feel a tiny bit of resistance when trying to spin the pedal when the fresh grease has worked its way down to the bearings.

repeat the excercise when they start to sound a bit dry. you'd struggle to overgrease them as they are not sealed very well.
