Manitou Swinger Coil 4way volume adjust

I've just got a Manitou Swinger Coil 4Way,
I think it's an 05 model but cant be sure.
All I want to know is, how much adjustment should there be on the volume adjust, the 16mm socket?
I started winding it in yesterday but found it seemed to go in for miles! I bottled out when I realised that it was in so far that I couldn't get to the valve to attach the shock pump anymore, as it was now inside the piggyback! I didn't reach a stop and was worried that I'd just unscrew something!
Whilst it's an old shock it's never been used so doubt it's been abused!
Anyonw know how many turns or how much travel that adjuster should have?
