Hubs

Hello,

I'm new to the BikeRadar forum.

I'm wondering and a little confused about the different rear hubs available.

135mm, 150mm and Trek's 142x12mm etc

I take it the 135mm etc is the width of the Hubs? I'm aware the 12mm etc is the axle diameter.

Does this mean that the wider hubs are only really meant for downhill bikes and won't fit a 'standard' type frame.

I'm planning on (eventually) building my own bike up (hardtail for general trail use) and don't want to buy something that I can't use.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Mike

  • Yep. That's how wide it is.

135mm is for 'normal' XC stuff.

they are for what ever the frame requires.

wider are normally found on more aggressive frames but it is not a rule.

rear hubs are not switchable for width.
