Ongoing knee pain (not while cycling)

Hey all,
I'm not looking for medical advice here, just wanted to see if anyone has suffered anything similar.
Back in December, I took a fall in the snow and battered my right knee pretty badly against the ground. I was immediately able to walk, nothing was broken, but my leg was a little bruised.
It's now February and there doesn't seem to be any sign of swelling, but my now occasionally *aches*, particularly when it's kept in the same position for a long time (I've been having trouble on long train journeys). I can still walk/cycle fine with no problems, but it's been causing me grief sitting at a desk for long periods of time (I keep having to stretch my legs...).
I'm applying Deep Heat every night in an effort to make things better, but nothing seems to be changing. Anyone experienced this at all? (Or should I just go to my GP and get referred to a physio...)
Cheers

I feel your pain! (Or at least, I have felt it)
I had exactly the same thing for months about 2 years ago, really struggled with cinema's, gigs, work etc and after lots of trips to doctors and physio's I was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis in my joints. Probably not as severe for you (one would hope) but I did manage to make the pain go away after time from doing various stretches.
The one I most recommend for first thing in the morning while you're still in bed is to tuck your knees up to your chin and pull your feet into your bum by your ankles. I imagine as a cyclist you'd be fairly flexible so if you struggle to get your heels to your bum then it's a sure sign there's some swelling in the knee joint, especially if it's only on one leg.. Also you could kneel down on the floor, sit on your feet and let your body fall backwards slowly. Balance those out with some regular calf/hamstring stretches and you should be taking your knee through a decent range of motions. If it doesn't get any better from that then go see a doctor..
It may not help, but it worked for me!0 -
Iv had knee problems, snapping my mcl acl with a recon down the line
From what you describe on the surface can be described as moviegoers knee , Patellofemeral pain which is a catch it all for a number of issues
I had it on my initial rehab when I tore my acl . It passed with training . I think the best thing is to see a Physio or see your GP they will refer to an ortho surgeon who I found was better at diagnosing knee problems
Good luck appreciate you situation as Iv been there0 -
Do you stretch ? - Hamstring stretches work wonders for knees0

I agree with the above tight hamstrings cause problems with maltracking ,0

I bust my right knee pretty bad running, which I quit, 2 years ago and suffer the same, although mine does still give me grief sometimes when riding.
Went to the doc, physio & knee specialist with no real diagnosis other than probable patella tendinitis, although an mri scan showed all clear.
I stretch (hams & calf muscles) and hot baths work. Also, foam rolling IT bands helps.
I try & keep my leg straight and make sure it's supported - as in feet on ground, when sitting.
Complicated things are knees!0
