Broken Lupine Edison 5

I've just broken my Lupine Edison front light
I've had the unit for a very long time, but just not used it much - so anyhow what I'm thinking is:
It's just the HID light that's broken (where I dropped it on the floor) so can this be repaired by Lupine, because it is getting on a bit now - if so what sort of cost would a new HID unit be!
or should I embrace new technology and buy a new front light. In which case what would be equivalent to the Edison 5 (I believe it is the equivalent of 65 Watts Halogen).
Any recomendations? I need to buy something ASAP cause I'm without any front light now apart from a blinking white LED.

The bulb finally wore out on my old Edison 4 and since Lupine are no longer supporting the old technology, having moved onto LEDs, I was obliged to buy anew. After a bit of soul searching - and having been very happy with Lupine lights - I took the plunge and bought a Lupine Betty. Very glad I did. It is a fantastic light - incredibly powerful, but with several settings (I have mine set for 700, 1100 and 1850 lumens)
THey are superbly made lights, and very reliable - as they should be for the price - and the new LEDs are extremely long lasting (far more so than the old HID globes) and upgradeable, so the issues that rendered my old Edison obsolete shouldn't arise. I expect to have the Betty working for me for a good many years, making it actually rather cost effective.
The new Wilma is good too, at less money, but the beam spread and and evenness with the Betty is much better - the advantages of 7 LEDs over 4.
Anyway - I really like the light a lot and have been very pleased with it. I ride a great deal in the dark, and on unlit lanes, and this really does the trick.
And yes - run before somebody mentions Magicshine...0 -
Being as I've still got the battery and charger etc. for my Lupine Edison... can I just buy the light unit part of the Wilma or Betty? and will they work with the battery I've got?0

I asked about that too and the people at Lupine said the Edison battery would work okay with the Betty (and I assume the Wilma as well)
I decided to get the whole new set. I found a decent deal and since I need long burn times for my rides - two hours-plus - and my Edison battery was getting old, I bit the bullet. The Betty has a really long burn time and that's nice, but if your battery is still strong and you don't need really long burn times, save some money and just get the light unit.
I bought mine direct from Lupine. It is - or was - quite hard to find the new Betty here in the UK; most of the ones in stock were the older 1500 lumens or 1750 lumens models with the separate switch. The latest, aside from being marginally brighter on its top setting, has an integrated switch, which means one less thing to crowd your handlebars. There is also a choice of 16-degree beam with or 22 degree beam width. It's a really nice unit - as it should be for the money. But it does live up to it.
Lupine's customer service is great and if you e-mail them they'll answer any of your queries0 -

Thanks Hoopdriver, I think I will buy a new set (about time I treated myself to a new light)
