Replacement left arm crank?

Hi everyone, been a while since I posted on here.

My friends left crank arm has come off whilst riding and the teeth are all chewed up so we need to buy a replacement (the bottom bracket looks fine).

I've only ever dealt with square tapers in my life and his are "splined" or "ISIS", not sure if that's the correct wordings, but it's loads of teeth.

my question is this... i know cranks come in different lengths (his are 170mm) but do the width of the teeth come in different sizes?

ie: if we buy different cranks, might they be too shallow or deep to fit on the bottom bracket.

I've included a random picture off the internet to explain what i mean...

well first what are the cranks?

    and how many splines.

    they all need to match.

and the crank arm in that picture has no splines there. (they are on the other arm  ).

he's got a cheap rubbish bike but i did write down the info from the crank arm...

    PYTHON
    170mm
    Vangreen BD

so i actually need to count the number of splines on the BB?

i was hoping we could just buy any old crank from ebay for cheap and it would fit, he's not bothered about matching colours or brands.

and fair point about the pic, i was in a rush so grabbed the first google image i found.

There are more than one mountings with 'lots of teeth' so you need to get the right one, count them!

shows two internal BBs with splines.

there there are 2 more the power spline and the power drive non are compatible with each other.

do some counting or take pictures.

Wouldnt it either be an ISIS or shimano Octalink he's talking about?? sounds that way to me in which case it will either be 8 (octalink) or 10 (ISIS).

more likely to be the cheaper power spline or power drive. powerspline being the more likely.

    thanks for the reply,

so do powerspline cranks come in different sizes?

like the depth of the splined hole i mean.
