I have a set of 50mm rim tubs and the tubs were taped on.I wanted more peace of mind so i watched a view vids on youtube showing how to glue tubs on correctly.I was a bit sceptical at first thinking it may turn out messy or worst still if i tried t glue them myself.
I followed the vids step by step and im amazed just how easy and clean the process was.
The job is done and my tyre is true.So don`t be scared to try tubs or glue them yourself just take your time follow the correct proceedure and its easy st. :D

I watched one of the Zipp videos where they show you how to clean them up when you get a punture. What a mission!

Id love a set of 808 Tubs but if i ever did get any they would be for TT, Tri & Race only.
Getting a puncture is what realy puts me off about tubs.

    What tyres did you fit?
  • Vitorria evo tech tyres.quite nice really :) They work well in all conditions.
Tubs are so much smoother to ride.I can`t explain it really just ride some and see.use clinchers as well but i do prefer my Tubs now.
I did watch the Zipp vids to learn the gluing proceeder :D
  • Can I ask what you used to stand the wheel in while gluing up the rims?

I have got some wheels and tubs ready and am just contemplating whether to glue or tape - I am leaning towards glueing but my biggest issue is where to "sit" the wheel while gluing the rims as I don't have a wheel stand (the weapon of choice in almost every "how to" vid).

I was thinking of just flipping the bike upside down and someone suggested just holding in one hand and gluing with the other but both seem a bit of a faff!

Tubs aren't that bad to sort out, its like anything once you've done it a few times its a doddle. Easiest way is to mount the tyre then turn your bike upside down and glue it, just remember to remove your bike computer unlike me...
  • i used an old pair of forks and an old stool.
I made a hole in the stool banged the forks through and it was easy from there.Just muscle the forks open to make wide enough for rear hub then muscle them back ish when done.

I just stood the wheel on the kitchen floor and applied the glue.
You shouldn't get the glue right up to the edge of the rim, therefore it doesn't touch the floor...

Just fitted a set of Corsa's on my 50mm carbon tubs using tape, was easy peasy, hope they don't come off!!!
