Bad enough " gettin cold feet "about getting out in this weather, let alone them actualy freezing once I took the plunge for the first time this year, I went out all prepared wore ski woolen socks with Shimano spd r shoes, but I guess with the ventilation and vents in bottom the socks were not man enough for the job, toes freezing after an hour, so cut the ride short, whats best more layers of sock, overshoes or is it my circulation?

  • Used to get cold feet a lot. Tip from my LBS as follows and has worked for me: Wear Assos winter plus or specialised wool trainer socks PLUS lycra shoe covers PLUS a pair of overshoes. Sorted. 8)

I have the same problem. I've started using GORE goretex socks with a few liner socks under. My feet stay at a managed temperate...they're still cold but not to the same extent, they're waterproof and thin enough not to stop circulation. Next step overshoes and shoe warmers......

Merino wool. even if your feet get wet they still remain toasty..
  • I've also had the same problem in the past, but in colder weather I now use neoprene shoe covers and don't have any problem with cold, wet feet now.

They also help keep my shoes clean, which is a bonus for cleaning because I just throw the shoe covers in the machine and don't have to clean my shoes anymore.
  • thanks for all your replys, will have a go at all of them!

electric insoles, not much more than a good pair of socks but MUCH MUCH more effective. I've used these for 5 or 6 years now and are really good, http://www.blazewear.com/index.php?cPath=27

Once your feet get cold then extra socks and overshoes just keep them cold and they tend to get wet as well from sweat.

i'd question this advice. it goes against the grain of most comments here.

decent overshoes and socks will keep your feet dry and warm. hence the use of decent overshoes and socks in the pro-peloton when training in early season.

Do they really work? Look quite good and a lot cheaper than the sidi heated insoles which I recall were about £150! Shame they're sold out, might be worth a try.

Yes, they are very good. I'm not as keen on the gloves. Get some good rechargeable batteries - last about 4 hours so good for most rides.
  • got some BBB over shoes only £15.00 looked the part but most importantly kept my feet warm, cheers for the advice guys

Woolie Boolies, Castelli toe covers and Sealskinz waterproof socks work for me.
  • U need Overshoes. I got a pair last week after years of cold feet. Can't believe I didn't wear them before. Just didn't get round to it

Didn't realise that you hadn't got overshoes! Good socks, winter shoes and overshoes are a minimum for the Winter IMHO. Bit late now as its spring, but hey ho, you'll be OK for next year!
