Hi im new to road riding . I'm after some good advice on pedals and shoes . SHOULD I LOOK AT BARGIN BASEMENT to begin with or should i send at the start .

  • Time RXS first pedals are great, almost identical to the really expensive carbon version.

I love mine & they cost under £50.

Good for walking about in as well without ice skating.

Shoes are pretty critical, get a pair that don't fit or do flex & your feet will hurt & you won't be able to put any work in. You have to try them on in a shop to get the right size.
  • Pedals and shoes (especially if you walk in them) can be high wear components and it makes sense to start off at the budget end of the scale.

I swear by Time. Their budget pedals are little different from their top of the range pedals - they mostly differ in terms of materials and weight - and the bearings are silky smooth.

If you go for the budget option with the pedals it leaves you some to spend on a good pair of shoes. Shoes get good at a certain price point, and this is typically when they start to come with carbon fibre soles. I do not buy anything 'Shimano' - with the exception of shoes. The Shimano range of shoes is a wide one and you can get good deals on discontinued lines.
