Shimano 9 speed shifter compatibility

Hi, I'm new to the forum.
I've been cycling for about a year now, and just getting into doing upgrades myself. I have a 2010 Specialized Allez Sport, which is a 9 speed. It has a Sora front derailleur and a Tiagra rear derailleur, with Sora shifters. I was hoping to switch to shifters that will make it easier to shift from the drops, and was wondering if older 9 speed Dura-Ace ST-7700 shifters would be compatible. A friend is giving them to me, but I wanted to be sure there wouldn't be any problems before I go through the trouble of installing them.
Are all Shimano 9 speed components generally compatible?
Thanks for the help!

Yes, it is all compatible
Exceptions:
You can't mix road and mtb front shifters and mechs (i.e. road shifter & mtb mech or vice versa)
Old Dura-Ace levers (1996 or earlier, 8 speed or fewer) must be used with old Dura-ace rear mechs.0 -
Great, thanks for the help! It will be nice to actually be able to shift from the drops once I get them installed.0
